US accused of drawing up plan to bomb Iran

United States President George Bush has charged the Pentagon with devising an expanded bombing plan for Iran that can be carried out at 24 hours’ notice. An article in the New Yorker magazine by the journalist Seymour Hersh describes the contingency bombing plan as part of a general overhaul by the Bush administration of its policy towards Iran.

ANC papers over cracks in alliance

The African National Congress (ANC) is ”more than capable” of speaking for itself on its state of organisation and other matters affecting it, party spokesperson Smuts Ngonyama said on Sunday. His remarks follow a call by the South African Communist Party for a ”major transformation and renewal” of the ANC.

Cadbury’s graveyard stunt falls flat

It seemed like a splendid idea: hide a coin worth $10 000 in a well-known place, and tantalise treasure hunters by offering the finder a chance to win up to another $1-million. But even the most well intentioned public relations plans sometimes come a cropper, and on Sunday Cadbury Schweppes was forced to apologise for its "tasteless" stunt.

Oosthuizen takes Telkom PGA honours

Louis Oosthuizen claimed his second victory in four tournaments when he won the Telkom PGA Championship at Country Club Johannesburg’s Woodmead Course on Sunday. Oosthuizen birdied the last for a 65 and a total of 22 under par, giving him a one-stroke victory in the final tournament of the Sunshine Tour’s 2006/07 season.
