JSE ticks higher in thin trade

The JSE was in positive territory just before noon on Friday, boosted by firmer world markets and basket buying ahead of next Thursday’s futures close-out. The market was extremely quiet, however, with only R1,5-billion-worth of shares changing hands. Bt 11.48am, the all-share index added 0,44%.

SA spinner saga a red herring

Even those of us who have been critical of Nicky Boje over the years had to blanch this week as the national selectors cut his throat, tied him to their chariot and dragged him around the walls of the Wanderers. He may have spent much of his Test career rivalling Ashley Giles for the title of the most innocuous left-armer in the game, but nobody deserves to have his dignity mutilated like that.

Now Google also registers website addresses

Google on Friday will join the crowded field of services registering website addresses in a move aimed at encouraging more usage of the online search leader’s free software products. Google’s service will charge a annual fee and only handle addresses ending in four suffixes — ”.com,” ”.net,” ”.biz” and ”.info”.

‘People’s poet’ in the dock again

Convicted robber and ”people’s poet” Mzwakhe Mbuli has appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting his wife, the Daily Sun reported on Friday. Mbuli allegedly grabbed his wife by her shirt and dragged her for a few metres when she refused to give him her car keys on Wednesday.
