Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted on Wednesday that his side do not have the financial means to compete for the same players as champions Chelsea. The JSE remained strong at midday on Wednesday as the market continued to be buoyed by news that global resources group Anglo American (Anglo) plans to reduce its shareholding in gold miner AngloGold Ashanti, and make other major changes. By noon, the all-share index had added 1,46%.

South African coach Frans Cronje has little doubt that his team will be a force at the Nike Junior Tour International Masters tennis tournament to be played in Nice, France, from October 31 to November 5. Cronje will take charge of Grant Ive, Wesley Montgomery, Bianca Swanepoel and Kaylea Sher for the event that pits top junior players from 21 countries.

A grief-crazed Russian architect who lost his wife and two children in Germany’s worst ever aviation disaster tracked down the air traffic controller he blamed for the crash, and then stabbed him to death, a court heard on Tuesday. In his first account of the killing, Vitaly Kaloyev said that he travelled to Zurich where the 36-year-old controller lived with his wife and children.
