Two police helicopters from Durban and police divers have been called in to search for a man who went missing after a Portnet helicopter crashed into the sea at the entrance to the Richards Bay harbour on Saturday morning. The two pilots who were in the helicopter were rescued and taken to hospital.

China on Saturday raised the death toll from Typhoon Talim to at least 54, while 23 more people were listed as missing, state media reported. The death toll shot up after authorities in the eastern province of Anhui said 39 people, perhaps more, had lost their lives in the powerful typhoon and that nine were missing.

World oil prices slumped on Friday as the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United States government pledged to release 60-million barrels of crude after Hurricane Katrina severely disrupted supplies. New York’s main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in October, fell ,82 to ,65 per barrel in early deals.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer vowed to ”kill” internet search leader Google in an obscenity-laced tirade, and Google chased a prized Microsoft executive ”like wolves”, according to documents filed in an increasingly bitter legal battle between the rivals. The allegations were filed on Friday in a Washington state court.

The Eastern Province (EP) Mighty Elephants gained a hard-earned 17-9 win over the Border Bulldogs in their Absa Currie Cup first-division rugby match played at the EP Rugby Union headquarters on Friday night after leading 14-0 at half-time. The match never really got off the ground, with both sides making many basic mistakes.

The Blue Bulls scored nine tries and swamped the Leopards to take full points from their Currie Cup encounter at Loftus Versfeld on Friday night, easily winning the match 69-24. David Beckham has warned Michael Owen that he cannot expect to walk straight back into England’s side for Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier away to Northern Ireland. Owen is suspended from Saturday’s match against Wales, and Beckham insisted that if the team play well without him, Sven-Goran Eriksson should stick to that line-up.
