The ANC’s in-house electoral commission says it is not investigating a single complaint brought to its attention. Bertha Gxowa, chairperson of the electoral commission, said the commission did not receive any complaints “within its competency”. The commission’s job is to ensure the nomination and voting process at the Polokwane conference runs smoothly.

The African National Congress (ANC) must make the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people a ”living reality” at its upcoming national conference. The Lesbian and Gay Equality Project and the Triangle Project will send an open manifesto demanding these rights to the ANC ahead of the conference.

The Public Service Accountability Monitor (PSAM) has expressed ”dismay” at the African National Congress’s (ANC) succession debate focusing on the personalities of President Thabo Mbeki and ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma. ”The PSAM believes that debate should be refocused on the protection of civil and political rights,” it said.

Libyan leader Moammar Gadaffi, who has proved an awkward guest for Nicolas Sarkozy, described his visit to France as "historic" and condemned terrorism after a second meeting with the president. Gadaffi told France 24 television in an interview he saw it as "an opening to have relations with Europe. It’s historic."

Suspended African National Congress (ANC) member Votani Majola has failed in another bid to have next week’s ANC national conference in Polokwane postponed. The Supreme Court of Appeal on Wednesday dismissed his urgent application for leave to appeal a Johannesburg High Court judgement, which also turned down an urgent application.

The fate of the United Nations human rights investigator for Sudan, who has reported war crimes in Darfur, hangs in the balance this week as African and Islamic countries seek to end her mandate. The African National Congress (ANC) on Tuesday laid down some house rules aimed at preventing factionalism ahead of its national conference, at which its new leadership structure is to be elected. The African National Congress (ANC) said on Monday it had suspended an activist for launching a legal battle to postpone the party’s leadership conference. Votani Majola has asked the country’s Supreme Court of Appeal to grant his request to have the ANC’s December 16 to 20 congress delayed for six months.
