Bedlam erupted in the Kempton Park Regional Court on Thursday when three men accused of possession of illegal firearms staged a dramatic escape. The escape took place when the three suspects were taken to the court’s holding cells, presiding magistrate Eric Mhlari told the Mail & Guardian Online on Friday.

Twins Danielle and Danika Lowton were doing well a week after the operation that separated them, the Arwyp Hospital said on Friday. Spokesperson Henry du Plooy said Dr Wale Adedipe, Arwyp Medical Centre’s resident neurosurgeon, reported that the twins were doing ”very well” after he visited them on Friday.

A 10-hour operation to separate conjoined twins Danielle and Danika Lowton is currently under way at the Arwyp Medical Centre Private Hospital in Kempton Park, spokesperson Henry du Plooy confirmed on Friday. Only four operations of this nature, namely the separation of conjoined twins, have ever been carried out in South Africa.
