The European Union must substantially increase financial resources for research on a vaccine against HIV, which causes Aids, leading non-governmental activists say. Ann Katrin Akalin, spokesperson of the German Aids Foundation, says the EU is contributing only 6% of the world’s total public financing for research on a vaccine.
Parks and pavements in Germany are full of cyclists this summer, but not bicyclists. Almost everywhere, children, teenagers and adults are riding about on unicycles as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Unicycles, long associated with circuses, are making a comeback.

South Africa coach Stuart Baxter admits he is on borrowed time following Wednesday’s 4-2 friendly defeat by Germany. The visitors conceded three goals in the first five minutes of the second half at the Weserstadion and the manner of the defeat has convinced Baxter that his time is up.

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter knows it’s just a matter of time before he is sacked. ”After one-and-a-half years, I’ve passed the sell-by date of most coaches — they’ve had 12 coaches in 11 years,” Baxter said on Monday. ”Sooner or later, I’ll be sacked. It may be now or maybe they’ll wait until the end of the campaign.”
German police, called to a house early on Sunday because of complaints about noise, were taken aback to be welcomed as eagerly expected male strippers. Two officers were greeted by a group of women with cries of "Are the strippers here at last?" when they visited the premises in the north-western port city of Bremen.
