MTN, Bharti merger talks could wind up soon

Merger talks between India’s biggest cellphone services firm, Bharti Airtel, and South Africa’s flagship MTN Group could wind up this weekend, a report said on Saturday. A merged group would create the world’s sixth-largest mobile company with a network of 130-million subscribers.

India’s Tata buys Jaguar and Land Rover

Thousands of workers at Jaguar and Land Rover plants are expected to be told on Wednesday that the marques have been sold to the Indian conglomerate Tata. It is understood that a deal between Tata and Ford over the sale of two of the best known names in British car making was concluded on Tuesday night.

EU walks business tightrope in climate plans

The European Union’s exective commission fine-tuned a blueprint to slash the bloc’s greenhouse gas emissions amid lobbying on Tuesday over details which environmentalists said over indulged oil companies and airlines. The EU is trying to lead the global fight against climate change without harming a fragile economy.
