Kamte breaks through at Sun City

James Kamte raised his hands in praise after scoring a breakthrough victory with an explosive five-birdie back nine to overhaul his rivals and win the R1,8-million Dimension Data Pro-Am at the Gary Player Country Club on Sunday. In doing so, Kamte also became the first black South African to win on the tough summer swing of the Sunshine Tour.

Ernie Els shines at own invitational

It was the Big Easy of Old who blitzed round the Outeniqua course in 62 strokes in today’s first round of his own Ernie Els Invitational, which is being played at Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate. Eight seemingly effortless birdies and an eagle on the par-five 17th saw Els finish three ahead of compatriot Retief Goosen.

Jo’burg Open confident of enduring success

The Jo’burg Open will again be hosted at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club from January 9 to 13 after a successful inaugural tournament held at the same venue last year. A total of 204 international and local players are expected to tee up in the tournament worth an overall cash prize of €1,1-million.
