German nurse charged with murder of patients

A nurse facing murder and manslaughter charges went on trial on Tuesday over the deaths of 29 patients in what has been described as the biggest series of killings in Germany since the end of World War II. Stephan Letter (27) could face life in prison if the Bavarian state court in Kempten convicts him on 16 counts of murder, 12 of manslaughter and one of mercy killing.

Severe flooding hits southern Germany

Heavy rains triggered severe flooding in southern Germany overnight and authorities warned on Tuesday that worse is still to come. The city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen was the first to ring alarm bells after flooding near the nearby town of Eschenlohe prompted police to evacuate people from their homes in boats.
