Nike to sponsor Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club on Saturday announced that, effective from June 1, Nike South Africa will be the official technical sponsor of the club for a period of four years. Nike partners with the world’s most successful players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney as well as Benni McCarthy and Aaron Mokoena.

Swallows, Leopards can learn from Boks

After watching — and fanatically celebrating — the Springboks’ emphatic victory in the Rugby World Cup final, the Premier Soccer League game between Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards on Sunday paled in comparison. A 91st-minute goal had Swallows coach Ian Gorowa obviously relieved at getting the three points.

Sundowns in ‘scorching’ DRC without star players

Mamelodi Sundowns arrived in a ”scorching” Lubumbashi for Sunday’s crucial Confederation Cup game against the Democratic Republic of Congo’s TP Mazembe on Friday without injured stars Ezrom Nyandoro, Surprise Moriri and Brent Carelse.
”It is a hammer blow’ to be without players of their calibre, said coach Gordon Igesund.

Majestic Ghana shatter SA’s Olympic dream

A bungling South Africa lost 3-1 to a majestic Ghana team in an Olympic soccer qualifier at the Olen Park Stadium in Potchefstroom on Saturday. Ghana striker Prince Tagoe scored twice and midfielder Obed Ansah netted a splendid goal to join Nigeria at the top of the three-team group competing for a place at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
