Siyabonga Nqakula was on Monday effectively given a sentence of a R10Â 000 fine or six months in prison on a charge of drunken driving. Nqakula’s father is Minister of Safety and Security Charles Nqakula and his mother Minister of Home Affairs Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
Siyabonga Nqakula, son of the Minister of Safety and Security, was on Monday found guilty in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. The charge stemmed from a late night head-on collision in the Cape Town CBD in March last year.
Siyabonga Nqakula, the son of the Minister of Safety and Security, should be convicted on charges of drunken driving and reckless or negligent driving, the state told the Cape Town magistrate’s court on Tuesday. Titi Mthimunye recounted the testimony of four state witnesses that Nqakula had smelled of liquor and that he had been unsteady on his feet.
Siyabonga Nqakula, son of Minister of Safety and Security Charles Nqakula, dozed off behind the steering wheel of his mother’s car before landing up on the wrong side of the road and smashing head-on into an oncoming car, the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court heard on Monday. Nqakula testified in his own defence on charges of drunken driving and reckless driving.

A journalist, furious because his stories had been rejected, stormed into a radio station’s premises and threatened to ”blow this place up” unless his grievances were aired. Radio Heart’s news anchor Zulpha Khan on Friday told the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court she bore the brunt of the incident in May.

Kroonstad blogger Juan Duval Uys (39) stepped free from the dock of the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday, after a charge of crimen injuria, laid by Independent Democrats politician Simon Grindrod, was withdrawn. Uys said that he in turn had laid charges of crimen injuria and harassment against Grindrod.
