A motorist who allegedly pushed a taxi driver in front of moving cars during a road-rage incident in Menlyn has come forward, Pretoria police said. Spokesperson Phillip Likoantsane said the man went to the Garsfontein police station and opened a case against the injured taxi driver for assault and malicious damage to property.
An Egyptian diplomat’s family living in Groenkloof was held up at gunpoint and robbed over the weekend, Pretoria police said on Monday. ”Four suspects entered the house after they held up the guard. They then held up the family and robbed them of household goods and jewellery, then fled the scene.

Three men who were arrested in connection with the killings of two foreign nationals in the Brazzaville informal settlement in Atteridgeville were expected to appear in court on Thursday. The investigating officer was busy preparing a docket and the three would appear on murder and damage to property charges in Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court.

About 10 students from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were arrested on Wednesday following a protest that turned violent, said Pretoria police. Captain Dumisani Ndlazi said the 10, who were part of a protesting group, were arrested at the university’s main campus in Pretoria West.

Akasia High School in Pretoria had a normal school day on Monday following last week’s double stabbing, the school’s headmaster said. Headmaster Frik van Wyk said pupils were back in class at about 9.30am after he had spoken to angry parents about the incident and assured them of their children’s safety.

Tanzania’s ambassador to South Africa was beaten unconscious and several of his guests were assaulted and robbed at his farewell dinner in Pretoria on Friday night. About five armed men pushed aside the barbed wire and jumped over the wall of a diplomatic residence in Pretoria at about 10pm, a government official at the function said.

The Pretoria offices of the daily Afrikaans newspaper Beeld were robbed of more than 30 computers and four cars, Pretoria police said on Saturday. ”I can confirm that a group of armed men stole about 38 computers, four cars, a camera and a cellphone during the robbery in Hatfield on Friday night,” said Captain Lucas Sithole.

Material suspected to be human bones have been unearthed at a home in Capital Park, next door to the home of paedophile Gert van Rooyen, Pretoria police said on Wednesday. Captain Percy Morokane said the owners of the home were installing a swimming pool when the discovery was made on Tuesday evening.

Four men were arrested after allegedly kidnapping a young boy and demanding R75 000 ransom from his parents on Wednesday, Pretoria police said. ”The [boy’s mother] told the men to come to her office today [Wednesday] to collect the money, and at the same time, she called police,” Inspector Paul Ramaloko said.

A nine-year-old girl was raped during a burglary in Monument Park on Monday, Pretoria police said. Captain Tessa Jansen said two men in their 20s broke into a 35-year-old woman’s house around 1am. They gained access by breaking a window and once inside they threatened the woman at knife-point.
The 45-year-old Johannesburg student pilot of a light aircraft was killed when his plane crashed close to Lanseria International Airport in Johannesburg on Monday evening. He was preparing to land the Piper Cherokee at Lanseria at 6.55pm, but hit power lines and went down on a farm.
