No dead end yet in Zim, say SA facilitators

While anxiety due to the delay in the announcement of Zimbabwe’s presidential election results is shared, the process has not reached a dead end, the South African facilitation team said on Tuesday. ”The anxiety about the delay is certainly legitimate,” said Minister of Provincial and Local Government Sydney Mufamadi.

SA govt asks: Where are Zim vote results?

South Africa will work with other countries in the region to ensure the will of the Zimbabwean people is reflected, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Aziz Pahad said on Thursday. The country has joined the chorus of international calls for Zimbabwe to release the results of its March 29 presidential election as soon as possible.

Mbeki: SA needs to address issue of xenophobia

South Africa needs to address the issue of xenophobia, President Thabo Mbeki said on Wednesday in the National House of Traditional Leaders in Pretoria. ”Much has been mentioned by yourself concerning foreigners in our areas. I’m very glad that this matter will be addressed naturally together with the relevant government departments.”

Govt: Khutsong not a national disaster area

Khutsong has not been declared a national disaster area, the Ministry of Provincial and Local Government said on Wednesday. Spokesperson for the ministry, Thokozani Mtshali, said a North West portfolio committee presented a report to the provincial legislature on Tuesday but this did not constitute a declaration.

Khutsong sinkholes: Govt waits on more information

Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi is waiting for more technical information before deciding on action on Khutsong’s sinkholes, his ministry said on Thursday. The minister was waiting for more detailed information on Khutsong, said the minister’s acting spokesperson, Thokozani Mtshali, when asked about the government’s position on the situation.
