Jamaica’s Usain Bolt clocked a 100m world record of 9,72 seconds on Saturday to electrify the Reebok Grand Prix athletics meeting. The 21-year-old broke the previous record of 9,74 set by compatriot Asafa Powell in Rieti, Italy, on September 9 2007. Bolt finished ahead of 100m and 200m World Champion Tyson Gay of the United States (9,85) and American Darvis Patton (10,07).

Jason Roberts’s last-minute winner secured a 2-1 win for Blackburn Rovers away to local rivals Bolton Wanderers as they battled back from going a goal down in dramatic fashion on Sunday. The Lancashire derby appeared destined for a draw when the striker burst clear from the halfway line and left several defenders behind him at the Reebok Stadium.

United States sportswear giant Nike ventured further into the British football market on Tuesday after agreeing to buy rival Umbro, maker of the England soccer strip, for $582-million. The cash bid, worth 195 pence per Umbro share, values the British group at £285-million, a joint statement said.
