A paramedic saw a man cutting his own throat after he failed a KwaZulu-Natal Road traffic inspectorate fitness test, heard an inquiry.
At an inquiry into the deaths of eight job applicants, the KZN transport department says its advert specified that a tough physical test was required.
Traffic authorities are out in full force on the N1 highway to Limpopo as thousands of faithful head to the Zion Christian Church’s headquarters of Moria for the Easter gathering, the traffic department said on Thursday. Spokesperson Ntau Letebele said traffic officials were pulling out all the stops to prevent road accidents.

Thousands of South African motorists may lose their driver’s licences by the end of 2008 if they fail to adhere to the rules of the road, the KwaZulu-Natal transport department said on Thursday. Bheki Cele, provincial minister of transport, community safety and liaison, said the demerit system will be introduced this year.
