Libyan leader Moammar Gadaffi’s reformist son is trying to use the homecoming of the Lockerbie bomber to boost his waning prestige.
A son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadaffi is mediating over two Austrians held by al-Qaeda in North Africa and is hopeful they will be freed soon, an Austrian politician was quoted as saying. Saif al-Islam, who heads the Gadaffi Foundation charity, has been in touch with the kidnappers, said Carinthia governor Joerg Haider.

On Saturday, Libyan leader Moammar Gadaffi celebrated the 38th anniversary of the military coup in which he ousted the British-backed King Idris. The 65-year-old is no longer a pariah. Libya is certainly changing, yet a week here makes clear that change is far more limited than many seem to think.
