A magnitude-6,3 earthquake struck north-eastern Nevada on Thursday, the United States Geological Survey reported. There were no immediate reports of damage in the nearest large city, Salt Lake City, Utah, although some residents were shaken by the morning quake, local radio said.

Gordon B Hinckley, the world leader of Mormons who presided over a period of intensive growth for the religion, died on January 27 at the age of 97, officials said. Hinckley was ordained as the 15th president of the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in March 1995.
Three of the rescuers attempting to find six workers trapped in a Utah mine since last week have been killed following a cave-in, officials said on Thursday. Additionally, six rescuers were injured, said Tammy Kikuchi, a spokesperson with Utah’s department of natural resources.
It was not the most romantic of honeymoons. Police said a groom is in jail, accused of trying to run over his new wife after a weekend wedding in Las Vegas. ”We have a wedding certificate for [March] 4th. They were still -honeymooning when he ran her over,” said Lieutenant Paul Jaroscak.

Hewlett-Packard says it is yielding to large clients’s demands and expanding Linux distribution — a decision that could force Microsoft to reconsider some of its corporate pricing for Windows. HP announced a partnership with Novell this week and plans to package its SuSE version of Linux with computers bound for corporate clients.
