South African Hockey Association (Saha) president Dave Carr will request an urgent meeting with the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) to clarify the SA men’s team selection for the Beijing Olympics. This comes in the wake of the sports portfolio committee, chaired by Butana Komphela, insisting there be a 50-50 race representation.
The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) has dissolved the executive committee of Basketball South Africa (BSA) and appointed an interim committee. This follows allegations that Vusi Mgobhozi and Eric Nkosi — who were respectively president and treasurer of BSA until Sascoc’s move — are guilty of financial mismanagement.

The probe follows complaints by Gauteng basketball officials, who have accused the national federation’s president, Vusi Mgobhozi, and treasurer Eric Nkosi of turning BSA into their personal bank account.
South African athletes will not be given specific targets for Beijing, but will aim to better previous records and enjoy the challenging experience of the Olympic Games. The first batch of names of athletes and officials who will form part of Team SA were announced at Olympic House in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

No one is standing against him. In the run-up to the elections, Chuene has been under pressure to resign.
With just four months to go before the Beijing Olympics only eight South African track and field athletes have achieved qualifying times. Athletics South Africa says there is nothing to worry about. This is despite the fact that South Africa won no medals at the last two International Association of Athletics Federations world championships in Finland and Japan.

Swimming South Africa announced on Wednesday a full-strength line up for the Fina World Short-Course Championships in Manchester, United Kingdom, from April 9 to 13. President Jace Naidoo and national coach Dirk Lange said it is the strongest South African short-course squad selected to date.
