Dravid undone by England’s ‘perfect’ game

India captain Rahul Dravid said England had played the ”perfect” one-day game after defeating his side by the huge margin of 104 runs in the opening match of a seven-match series at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday. Dravid, who sent England in to bat, saw the home team pile up 288-2 with Ian Bell and Alastair Cook both scoring their maiden one-day international hundreds.

Warne eyes Ashes revenge

Shane Warne believes that Australia’s defeat in England last year has proved the ideal catalyst for coach John Buchanan’s ageing side ahead of the latest edition of the Ashes. Warne returns to his Melbourne home this week after a season in English county cricket as captain of Hampshire, and will build up to November’s first Test in Brisbane by playing for Victoria.

England coach breaks silence over ball-tampering saga

England coach Duncan Fletcher has spoken publicly for the first time regarding newspaper reports he saw match referee Mike Procter before play on the fourth day of the controversial fourth Test against Pakistan at The Oval last month. Some reports in the British press suggested Fletcher had seen Procter on the morning of August 20 to discuss alleged ball-tampering by Pakistan.

England’s dismal one-day record continues

Younis Khan’s 101 was the centrepiece of Pakistan’s two-wicket win over England in the day/night third one-day international at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Tuesday. Pakistan, cruising to victory at 215-4, did suffer a late collapse that saw them lose three wickets for nine runs as they declined to 265-8, with fast bowler Stuart Broad striking twice in two balls.

No action to be taken against Pakistan

Shoaib Akhtar and the rest of the Pakistan team were exonerated of any wrongdoing after a controversial incident during the third match of their one-day series against England at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Tuesday. Footage from host broadcaster Sky Television appeared to show the fast bowler flicking at the ball with his left thumb as he returned to his mark.

Warne denies talk of one-day comeback

Shane Warne has firmly rubbished rumours of an impending return to Australia’s limited overs squad. Warne, back in the United Kingdom for the start of a county season with Hampshire, said he had no intention of coming out of his self-imposed one-day international retirement.

Warne begins Ashes assault on England

Shane Warne has insisted it will be England who will be under pressure when the Ashes series against Ricky Ponting’s Australian tourists gets under way in July. Australia have won the last eight Ashes series dating back to 1989 and, although England are now ranked second in the world, Michael Vaughan’s men will be outsiders to break the sequence.
