Ice storm grips central US

A crippling winter storm has lashed the central United States with another blast of freezing rain, sleet and snow, causing widespread power outages and tying up highways and airports. The storm was expected to continue through the weekend, laying down a coat of ice and snow from Texas to Illinois.

Mickelson leads as rain delays PGA finish

Phil Mickelson soared and then stumbled but was still leading by a stroke on Sunday when thunderstorms halted play and forced officials to push back the finish of the United States PGA Championship by 24 hours. Mickelson went from three shots ahead to two shots behind Steve Elkington in a span of seven holes.

A day-long drama over whether or not Tiger Woods could make the cut at the PGA Championship ended in spectacular fashion on Friday with a last-hole birdie sending the superstar into the weekend. The Masters and British Open champion risked missing the cut to attempt a birdie-eagle finish on Baltusrol Golf Club’s only par-five holes.
