South African stocks were little changed at noon on Tuesday in a thin-volume session, as some traders remained on the sidelines ahead of Wall Street opening. At midday the all-share index was neither here nor there (-0,06%) at 31 754,380. Resources were up 0,50% but the gold- and platinum-mining indices were down 0,16% and 1,63% respectively.
The rand and bond market in South Africa are at one that the indefinite delay in South Africa’s producer price index (PPI) is causing the country’s reputation harm on the global stage. Dealers and portfolio managers in the rand and bond markets on Monday said that the untimely delays were causing damage.

Writing in his weekly newsletter on the African National Congress website, President Thabo Mbeki on Friday railed against the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR) for making ”the startling claim” that more South Africans are now poorer than they were in 1996. The SAIRR, in turn, defended itself in a statement released later in the day.
The Eastern Cape has some of the poorest districts in the country, according to Statistics South Africa
