The ANC will file an urgent application against the use of the name Congress of the People in court next week Wednesday, it was reported on Tuesday.
About 60 people were evacuated from the African National Congress (ANC) headquarters, Luthuli House in Sauer Street in Johannesburg, following a bomb scare that was received on Thursday morning. ”The switchboard received the bomb scare at 8am this morning … everyone in the building was then immediately evacuated,” said ANC spokesperson Steyn Speed.
African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma celebrated his 66th birthday on Saturday. Unlike Zuma’s birthday last year, when 1 000 people attended a lavish affair at Durban’s International Convention Centre, no major events have been planned for his 66th birthday.

Luthuli House — headquarters of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) — was evacuated on Friday after a man tried to torch the building, the party said. ANC spokesperson Steyn Speed said that the man entered the door of the building at about 10.30am, poured petrol on the floor and set it alight.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation has been awarded exclusive rights to provide the feed at the African National Congress conference in Polokwane in December to all other broadcasters. Five SABC cameras would be allowed in the plenary hall during open sessions and would be providing ”clean feeds” and unedited material.
