Schools are plugging into a Heart Foundation programme that aims to combat playground puppy fat.
Five years ago the future looked bleak for pupils at Cangci Comprehensive Technical High School in the remote village of AmaMpisi on the hilltops of the Eastern Cape. However, in 1999 things changed when village chief Daliwonga Mlindazwe met Nelson Mandela. He told Mandela about his dream to build a technical school for the children, so the two men put their heads together.

The Services sector education and training authority (Seta) has disbursed more than R180-million in grants to its members, according to its CEO, Ivor Blumenthal.
The Services Seta comprises 29 industries with 65 000 member companies and about two million employees. Many of these are in small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Beyond the protracted anti-retroviral debate in South Africa is a worrying lack of attention to the "shelter and services needs" of families with members who are HIV-positive or living with Aids.
