Sudan: ‘There is no return to war’

Military leaders and officials from north and south Sudan have agreed there would be ”no return to war” after more than a week of bloody clashes over the disputed oil town of Abyei, a senior northern official said on Tuesday. Tens of thousand of civilians fled Abyei last week during clashes between northern and southern troops.

Sudan chief meets southern leaders to end dispute

Sudan’s president met former southern rebels on Tuesday for the first time since they withdrew their ministers from the government, triggering the country’s worst political crisis since a 2005 peace deal. Last week members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement withdrew from a coalition government, saying they wanted progress on key elements of the 2005 agreement.
