England amasses 84 as scores get bigger

Day three of the Rugby World Cup and the scores are getting bigger. As if to outshine France’s 61 points, New Zealand’s 70 and South Africa’s 72, England romped to an 84-6 crushing of rookie Georgia on Sunday. While the French and All Blacks can wait until later in the championship, that SA 72-6 result against Uruguay was a target for Clive Woodward’s men.

England are facing a scrum-half crisis after injuries to Matt Dawson and Kyran Bracken left them with just one fit No.9 ahead of Saturday’s World Cup crunch match against South Africa. Boeta Dippenaar hit a solid half century and Shaun Pollock took three wickets to guide South Africa to a convincing seven-wicket win and take the one-day series 3-2 after the fifth and final day-night international in Pakistan on Sunday. Pakistan’s disappointing batting left a full-house holiday crowd of 18 000 frustrated.
