SA’s Van Zyl wins hurdles bronze

South African athlete Frikkie van Zyl won a bronze medal during the All-Africa Games 110m hurdles final on Sunday.

Van Zyl finished third in 13,94 in an event won by Joseph Randriamihaja of Madagascar in 13,77. Todd Matthews of Sudan was second in 13,81.

Top South African sprinter Geraldine Pillay came fourth in the women’s 100m final after clocking 11,38.

It was won by Nigerian Mary Omagbemi in 11,26.

In the men’s 800m heats, South African Hezekiel Sepeng and Mbulaeni Mulaudzi have qualified for the final taking place on Monday.

Mulaudzi, the Commonwealth Games champion, was second in 1:51,09 in the first heat. Sepeng qualified after finishing second in 1:48,94 in the second heat.

Heide Seyerling and Estie Wittstock have also qualified for the women’s 400m final taking place on Monday night. — Sapa
