SA start Aussie series with victory

South Africa got the home leg of their series against Australia off to the best possible start with a two-run victory in the Standard Bank Pro20 match at the Wanderers on Friday night, thanks largely to the batting of Graeme Smith and the bowling of Andrew Hall. The match was delayed by two hours because of rain.

Court allows ACDP to contest Cape Town elections

The African Christian Democratic Party should be allowed to contest the local government elections in the Cape Town unicity, the Constitutional Court ruled on Friday. ”The court … declares that the applicant is entitled to contest the elections in the Cape metropolitan area on March 1,” Justice Kate O’Regan said on Friday.

The Chiefs, fresh from two defeats in South Africa, turned an unproductive glut of first-half possesion into points during the second half to emerge 26-9 victors.

SA Rugby turns loss into R6,4m profit

SA Rugby turned a R12,8-million loss incurred by the end of 2004 into a R6,4-million net profit in the past financial year. The figures were contained in the company’s audited annual financial statements, adopted at Friday’s annual general council meeting at the Newlands rugby stadium.
