‘Obviously’ govt will deal with crime

The happiness that comes with freedom applies equally to the challenge of dealing with crime, President Thabo Mbeki said in his State of the Nation address during the opening of Parliament in a rainy Cape Town on Friday. "Obviously, we must continue and further intensify the struggle against crime," he said.

It’s a really Super 14

The conservative nature of the opening round of fixtures in the Super 14 suggests that we are in for a fascinating tournament. Not one bonus point for four tries was recorded in the seven games, but there were two for defeated sides finishing within a converted try of the winners.

US bids to give guns to pilots on all flights

The United States federal body charged with protecting air passengers from terrorist attacks is asking governments around the world for permission to place armed pilots on international flights. The transport section of the Department of Homeland Security wants to extend the system whereby pilots are currently armed on a small number of domestic flights.
