The Democratic Alliance has asked the Minister of Home Affairs Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula for a report on how the six-month reformation of the department’s administration has progressed. A task team was given six months to address problems identified in the department and this time has elapsed, DA spokesperson on Home Affairs Sandy Kalyan said on Sunday.

Britain scrambled to contain its first outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of bird flu in domestic poultry on Saturday after the virus was found at a farm run by Europe’s biggest turkey producer. About 2Â 500 turkeys have died since Thursday at the Bernard Matthews farm near Lowestoft in eastern England.

At least seven people have been killed in severe flooding in the Indonesian capital and surrounding areas where nearly 190 000 people have been displaced following several days of torrential rain, officials said on Sunday. Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso declared ”highest alert” for the city at midnight on Saturday after heavy rains continued in the upper areas around the city of Bogor.

A Chewbacca impersonator was arrested after being accused of head-butting a Hollywood tour guide who warned the furry brown Wookiee about harassing two Japanese tourists, police said on Saturday. ”Nobody tells this Wookiee what to do,” ”Chewie” from the Star Wars movies said before slamming his head into the guide’s forehead.
