Caribbean countries hosting the Cricket World Cup have compiled a list of 4Â 600 deportees and others who will not be allowed entry during the tournament that begins next month.
Barbados Deputy Prime Minister Mia Mottley, who chairs a Caribbean Community committee that oversees security for the event, said those forbidden to visit the nine host countries include Caribbean natives and foreign nationals.
”These are people who have been convicted of serious criminal offenses and who are the subject of threats to the state on the basis of intelligence,” she said at a press conference Thursday.
Interpol and the United States agreed to provide information to help Caribbean countries filter potential security risks from the tens of thousands expected for the March 13-to-April 28 tournament.
French and British law enforcement officials will help with security during the event.
Security forces activated for the tournament will include 70 officers from South Africa trained in bomb and nuclear materials detection, Barbados’ attorney general Dale Marshall said. – Sapa-AP
