DRC SUMMIT IN HARARE

DEFENCE chiefs from the 14-nation Southern African Development Community began a two-day meeting in Harare on Thursday to review the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister Moven Mahachi told the opening session that the meeting will map out strategies on the best way forward in the search for permanent peace in the DRC. “While the ceasefire agreement has remained shaky in some respects as a result of the violations of the agreement by rebel factions, the prospects of fostering peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region r emain relatively bright,” he said.
