The Green Trust Award’s judges

The Green Trust Awards 2001 were judged by an independent panel of environmentalists. We would like to thank them for volunteering their time and expertise.

Arend Hoogervorst runs his own environmental consultancy, Eagle Environmental, and specialises in assisting industry with environmental impact assessments and environmental management plans.?He has recently been commissioned to undertake work for the United Nations Environmental Programme in Paris.

Saliem Fakir is the South African representative for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). He is a molecular biologist and spent four years as the manager of the natural resources programme at the Land and Agriculture Policy Centre before joining the IUCN.

Yolan Friedmann is deputy director of the Wildlife Breeding Resource Centre.

Greg Laws currently runs the WWF Sappi Wetlands Programme in KwaZulu-Natal. He was previously manager of The Green Trust.

David Lindley is the representative of the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa. He runs the Mondi Wetlands Programme.

Lynette Masuku van Damme is director of environmental education at South African National Parks.?She has been president of the Environmental Education Association of South Africa for three years and sits on WWF-South Africa’s environmental education and community-based conservation advisory committee.

Khungheka Njobe held the post of director of biodiversity at the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism until recently.?She now runs the biodiversity portfolio at the National Botanical Institute.

John Richards is a long-standing environmental journalist at the SABC.?He presents the Eco-Watch programme on SAfm.

Rozanne Savory’s roles in concervation have included executive officer of the Rhino and Elephant Foundation; fundraiser for South African National Parks’ elephant relocation; deputy director of the Siyazisiza Trust; wildlife unit coordinator at the National Council of SPCAs; and co-founder of the Ethical Conservation Network.
