THURSDAY, 1.00PM:
SOUTH AFRICA’S elite Premier Soccer League (PSL) is set to become the richest league in the continent. PSL spokeperson Andrew Dipela on Thursday announced that close to R9-million will be up for grabs in the coming season, which kicks off on Friday.
The Rothmans Cup is worth R3,6-million and the prize money for the Premier League and the BobSave Superbowl competition will be released soon. Dipela insists that it will be more than last year’s R2,7-million.
Last year’s League winners Maning Rangers won R500 000 and all 18 PSL teams pocketed R1-million. The Superbowl champions, Orlando Pirates, pocketed R242 000.
“It will be a substantial increase on last season,” said Dipela.
