ENGLAND WEAR ZIM DOWN

ENGLAND A’s Darren Thomas put Zimbabwe’s on the rack in Harare on Tuesday as the home side ended a rain-affected day on 63/5. Thomas of Glamorgan county took three wickets and Melvyn Betts of Durham took two during a day blighted by overnight rain and bad light.Only one hour and 45 minutes play was possible. England captain Mike Vaughan put Zimbabwe in on a soft wicket showing green patches while Betts, Thomas and Andrew Flintoff immediately found plenty of movement off the seam. Only Guy Whittal, Zimbabwe’s senior batsman, offered any real resistance. But he was out for 24, caught by Graeme Swann, as he tried to guide Betts through gully. England A has managed only four days of play from a possible nine on their tour of Zimbabwe which is experiencing one of the heaviest rainy seasons in living memory.
