director Roy Paulson sees himself in the guise of Superman

Which television programmes do you watch most often and why? I find that the SABC programmes are, at the moment, in a total mess and there is very little to watch of any merit except, obviously, Business Day Tonight, and I do enjoy watching Murder She Wrote. I am lucky enough to have access to the satellite programmes and I find the sports coverage and the discovery channels extremely rewarding.
Which book have you read recently that you would recommend? A book which I have finished recently and which was, in fact, given to me by my secretary, is a book entitled Living Dangerously by Sir Ranulph Fiennes. He came out to South Africa with the launch of our new magazine Out There and turned out to be an extremely interesting and inspirational speaker. I have a great love of the outdoors and have enormous admiration for people like Fiennes who are prepared to get out in to the world and make things happen.
Which radio station do you listen to and why? I am a news freak and I generally only listen to radio in the mornings and evenings when I am in my motor car. I generally only listen to AM Live and SAfm, but, regrettably, the standard of these programmes has fallen so badly that on a number of occasions I have switched over to Radio Highveld. I have never enjoyed talk shows like Radio 702 as I believe that people talk for the sake of it rather than because they have anything worthwhile to impart.
Do you surf the world wide web of the Internet? No.
Which is your favourite advertisement and why? I have always enjoyed the Castrol Oil advertisements which I find extremely topical and humorous. I also quite enjoyed an advertisement for Carlton toilet rolls, where a very upmarket couple go back to his pad under enormously seductive circumstances and when asked what she would like to drink she says “something soft”, and he hands her a toilet roll.
Which newspapers and magazines do you regularly read? Newspapers: Business Day and The Star everyday; sometimes the Citizen; sometimes Beeld and the Sunday Times every weekend. Magazines: I read Financial Mail, Playboy, Out There and Elle because we publish them, but also a wide variety of technical publications.
If you could be any film star (like Sharon Stone or Clark Gable) or any fictional character (like Batman because he is invincible), which would you be and why? I would like to be Superman, mainly because he has the ability to fly. To my mind that must be one of the great experiences left to man.
