WEDNESDAY, 1.30PM:
UMTATA Bush Bucks striker Wilfred Mugeyi, who signed up with German soccer club Werder Bremen last week, will play for Zimbabwe on Sunday in the African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Angola, before joining his new club. He was expected to leave for Germany on Wednesday but received a notice from the Zimbabwean Football Association that he was desperately needed in the squad.
“Your country has to come first and although the German deal is the best thing ever to have happened to me, I should show my patriotism and join my national squad teammates,” said Mugeyi.
Meanwhile, AmaZulu will finalise the acquisition of two Zimbabwean strikers, Alois Bunjira and Stewart Murisa, next week. The two players are in training camp with the Zimbabwean national team in preparation for their match against Angola on Sunday. They will arrive in the country next week accompanied by their agent and manager, Wieslaw Grabowski.
AmaZulu captain Francis Shonayi, who has been organising the transfer of the players, said: “I have talked to both Grabowski and the players and next week everything will be sealed.”
QwaQwa Stars, meanwhile, have signed up three Zambians. The players have been identified as striker David Mutale, defender Joe Bwalya and goalkeeper Laxon Mwaimale. Stars chairman Mike Mokoena said the players were impressive in training last week. “I gave new coach Freddy Mwila a blank cheque to look for players he thinks will help him in moulding Stars into one of the most feared clubs in the Premier Soccer League,” said Mokoena.
