Peter Jackson, New Zealand Oscar-winning director of The Lord of the Rings, has denied he is working on a remake of the class 1954 World War II movie The Dam Busters, according to a newspaper on Tuesday.
Matthew Dravitski, Jackson’s personal assistant, told Wellington’s Dominion Post, ”It is not the case. Peter will not be directing a remake of The Dam Busters.”
He denied a report in Britain’s Mail on Sunday that Jackson would work on the movie with David Frost, who reportedly bought the rights last year to a book on the Royal Air Force squadron that dropped bouncing bombs on the Ruhr in 1943.
”We denied the story at the time, but they’ve run with it anyway,” he said. ”It’s just one of those continuing speculative things.”
Dravitski said people assumed Jackson was working on an aviation movie because of his involvement with an aviation heritage and because he owns several World War I biplanes.
He said Jackson’s only two confirmed upcoming movies were Halo this year, of which he is executive producer, and The Lovely Bones, which he would direct next year. – Sapa-DPA
