Brass lend shine to dingy court

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Vusi Pikoli led a team of senior managers to help revamp Pretoria’s Mamelodi District Court on Friday, the NPA said.

The derelict Mamelodi Court was the first target of a project, ”Thusa batho — Making a difference” aimed at improving service delivery to the affected communities.

Working conditions for all who work in the criminal justice system, like prosecutors, magistrates, administrators, investigating officers, witnesses, social workers and others, would also be improved.

The team has painted the front entrance and interior walls of the building and broken windows have been replaced and facia boards have been repaired. New carpets were also installed in offices and new furniture has been procured for the comfort of witnesses in waiting rooms and in the offices of court officials.

Pikoli said it was significant that senior managers had undertaken to do the work.

”Senior managers from all NPA units have become labourers and true servants of the people today,” Pikoli said in a statement.

The event included sponsorship by a number of private companies and the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry. — Sapa
