STRAUSS SECOND IN BEST OZ PLAYERS LIST

FORMER South Africa captain Tiaan Strauss was voted Australia’s second best player in the Super 12 rugby after a strong season with the New South Wales Waratahs. ACT Brumbies fullback Joe Roff was named Australia’s best player on Thursday. Roff, picked on Monday to play on the wing in the first test against Ireland in Brisbane on June 12, claimed the award after finishing as the equal leading try scorer in this year’s series with eight touchdowns. Strauss was named as a reserve in the Australia squad on Monday after completing a three-year residential period. Promising Queensland lock Nathan Sharpe was named rookie of the year after filling in for injured captain John Eales.
