Two men were arrested in Pretoria on Tuesday following the violent beating of two teenagers at a nightclub in Hatfield in Pretoria over the weekend, police said.
Eight more people are expected to be arrested shortly in connection with the assault of the 16-year-old and 19-year-old boys outside the Good4Fellas nightclub, said police spokesperson Inspector Percy Morokane.
The nightclub made headlines in May when one of its bouncers, Barnard Potgieter, was arrested after he allegedly beat patron Johan Winterbach so severely that he died after spending time in hospital.
Morokane said Friday’s fight started inside the club but moved to the car park just after 1am.
He said no bouncers had been involved this time.
”Both boys were so badly beaten by a group of guys that they had to be taken to the Wilgers hospital for surgery. Both suffered broken jaws,” he said.
Morokane said the arrests of the two men, aged 20 and 22, came after two cases of attempted murder were registered at the Brooklyn police station on Saturday.
”The two suspects were arrested at their place of work in the city centre at 1pm on Tuesday. Eight more are expected to be arrested soon,” he said.
Morokane said they will appear in a special court in Hatfield on Thursday.
The victims — the youngest who goes to a prominent school in Pretoria and his brother who attends university — have requested not to have their names mentioned for fear of reprisals, he said. — Sapa
