R1-m car ups ANC security

Nelson Mandela’s security has been upgraded with the inclusion of an armour-plated Mercedes Benz in the ANC’s fleet.

The vehicle, on loan from the German government, will be replaced by a newer model as soon as one leaves the production line in Stuttgart.

The limousine, worth at least R1-million, forms part of a security assistance package agreed between several Western countries following the killing of Chris Hani and the shootout between police and Walter Sisulu’s bodyguards
