BISHO MASSACRE AMNESTY FORMER members of the Ciskei Defence Force have applied for amnesty for their part in the 1992 Bisho massacre. The applications were submitted after Bisho attorney-general Leon Langeveld warned them earlier this year that they may still face prosecution for their actions.
DP-IFP TALK SHOP PARTY leaders from the Inkatha Freedom Party and the Democratic Party met for talks in Cape Town on Tuesday to discuss policy and strategy issues, and strengthen co-operation between the two parties. IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi said “of all parties in Parliament, we [IFP and DP] are the closest on many issues … We are federalists together.”
WAR GAMES PARATROOPERS from six countries, including South Africa, will meet on Reunion Island on Wednesday for a training exercise on techniques to evacuate civilians from war situations. Military units from France, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayotte and Djibouti will take part in the exercise.
PW’S MEMOIRS PW BOTHA will publish his memoirs, called “Stem uit die Wilderness” (Voice from the Wilderness) this month. The memoirs caused controversy in the dying months of the National Party goverment when his successor as president, FW De Klerk, attempted to have parts of them excised.
