Hezekiel runs his best 800m

THURSDAY, 1.30PM:

OLYMPIC 800m silver medallist Hezekiel Sepeng made a sensational comeback when he won the 800m and clocked his second best time in 1min 43,44sec at the Grand Prix meeting in Zurich on Wednesday night.

Sepeng, who was reduced to running in the B team, said he wants people to see that he is back. “It’s my best race ever. Even better than the Olympics. I’ve never felt like this before,” he said.

His previous best time was in Atlanta last year when he clocked 1min 42,74sec.

World Championship 400m hurdles silver medallist Llewellyn Herbert won the 400m hurdles after he clocked 48,54sec. Herbert finished ahead of Hungarian Dusan Kovacs.

Meanwhile, Danish Wilson Kipketer won the 800m after he clocked 1min 41,24sec and broke Sebastian Coe’s 16-year-old record of 1min 41,25sec. Kenyan Wilson Boit Kipketer also broke the 3 000m steeplechase record in 7min 59,08sec. Olympic 10 000m silver medallist Haile Gebrselassie smashed the 5 000m record by more than 2,5sec after runing 12min 41,86sec.
