Chiefs win without Biyela

MONDAY, 9.50AM:

A TEN-man Kaizer Chiefs won their Castle Premier Soccer League match against a youthful Moroka Swallows 1-0 at Ellis Park Stadium on Sunday. Chiefs played for 71 minutes without lethal striker Thembinkosi Biyela after he was given his marching orders by referee Ian Mcleod, for stamping on the “Birds” defender Cleophas Dlodlo.

Chiefs’ fast running midfielder Frank Makua gave Chiefs an early lead after he received a pass from Biyela and fired a powerful shot past an advancing Swallows goalkeeper Windell Robinson in the 23rd minute.

Chiefs debutant striker Liberty Musonda was replaced by veteran Mark Williams after Musonda missed four clear scoring chances and the fans called for his replacement.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana new recruit Alex Bapela scored a brace as the on-form Sundowns hammered Jomo Cosmos 3-0 at PAM Brink Stadium on Sunday. Isaac Shai – another player hoping to get his first cap for the national team – sealed the victory for the visitors.

Defending champions and log leaders Manning Rangers beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at Seisa Ramaboudu Stadium on Sunday to stay on top of the table. An unmarked Kerryn Jordaan, connected Percivol Moletsane’s cross in the 60th minute, headed the ball home to give the Rangers a well deserved victory.

Meshack Tsotetsi’s header in the 27th minute gave QwaQwa Stars a deserved victory over AmaZulu at Kings Park Stadium on Sunday.

Wilfred Mugeyi scored a brace as Bush Bucks beat Hellenic 4-3 in a nail biting match at the Umtata Stadium on Sunday. John Maduka scored the third goal and Mario January sealed victory for the home side.

Cape Town Spurs and Real Rovers played to a goalless draw at Pietersburg Rugby Stadium on Sunday. Spurs defender Marion Scheepers deflected a Petrus Mokoena cross for an own goal but referee Arries Soldatos disallowed it.

Orlando Pirates were forced to sweat for their 4-3 victory over African Wanderers at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. Dumisa Ngobe, Bruce Ramokhadi, Gerald Raphahlela and Andries Sebola scored for the Bucs. South African under-23 international striker Siyabonga Nomvete, Phumlani Mkhize and Sibusiso Zuma replied for the Durban side.
