Standard Bank League matches

MONDAY, 12.30PM:

WESTERN Province beat Eastern Province in a Standard Bank League cricket match at St Georges Park on Sunday. WP hit 224/9 in 45 overs and dismissed the home side at 212 with one over remaining.

Westerns’ Paul Kirsten hammered 67 to help his team to victory.

Easterns’ hopes of victory were dented when Dave Callaghan was run out in a mix-up with Kepler Wessels. Accurate batting by Westerns’ bowlers kept Easterns’ trusted batsmen Gavin Victor and Louis Koen busy.

Meanwhile, Steve Elworthy hit an impressive 73 in 69 balls to help Northerns to another victory against Free State in the Standard Bank League at Centurion Park on Saturday.

Northerns, who needed 212 runs to win after Free State hit 211/8, managed 212/6 with 13 balls left, thanks to Elworthy. His partnership with Grant Morgan produced 111 runs. He hit five sixes and four fours.
