Here be freebies

Here is the eM&G’s guide to some of the most popular software titles available for download as shareware or freeware off the Internet.

* Opera 3.21: From Oslo, Norway comes a speedy, award-winning browser. It’s compact, versatile and it supports the HTML 3.2 standard. Designed expressly to fly with older 386/486 machines, it includes a basic newsreader as well as a “send e-mail” function.

* Pegasus v.3.01b: Pegasus makes it hard to understand why people still buy e-mail software. Pegasus can do just about everything, and includes support for multiple mailboxes.

* Yeah Write v.1.4: You’ve always used Windows Write or, even worse, Notepad, and you want a better word-processor. But you really don’t want to shell out great wads of cash just for the few extra features you really want to use.

That’s why you need Yeah Write. When you install Yeah Write, you can choose whether to use the free or the shareware version.

Even as limited freeware, however, Yeah Write represents a dramatic improvement over Windows Write.

* Graphically!! v.1.50: This business program helps you design three-dimensional charts and graphs for financial and statistical data.

* Microsoft Word 97 Converter for Word 6.0/95: Enables you to open Word 97 files effortlessly without going to the trouble of upgrading.

* TransMac v. 3.1: Allows the PC user to read, write to and format Macintosh hardware like floppies or optical discs.
