Markgraaff leaves Griquas

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Tuesday 9.15am.

FORMER Springbok and Griqualand West rugby coach Andre Markgraaff will quit as coach of Griquas at the end of the year, and may take over the coaching position of the Golden Cats Super-12 team.

Markgraaff was recently appointed managing director of Supersport Rugby Holdings, comprising Griquas, Boland Cavaliers and the Free State Cheetahs, and the post does not allow him to coach any provincial rugby side.

Markgraaff, who is rated one of the top coaches in the country and has an uncanny ability to find exciting talent in the most obscure places, has been approached by the South African Rugby Football Union to coach the Cats after being given permission to take a Super-12 coaching position.

Swys de Bruin, former Natal Duikers and Natal B player, is set to take over the Griquas hot seat from Markgraaff. De Bruin coached the Natal Wildebeests in the Vodacom Cup this season, and took the Natal U21 side to victory in the league last year.
