OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Friday 11.00am.
TWO local golfers, looking for their first wins as professionals, set new course records of nine-under 62s at the Royal Johanesburg West on Thursday, when they shot their way to the top of the second-round leaderboard in the Gauteng leg of the Vodacom series.
Ryan Dryer (26) and John Dickson (29) left the big guns behind as they blasted away the 1987 course record of 63 set by Michael Green. Both players played golf in the United States for five years on University scholarships.
Dickson goes into Friday’s final round with a 36-hole total of 131, a single stroke ahead of Dreyer.
The West course on Thursday played much easier than in Wednesday’s opening round after overnight rain softened the tricky greens.
