Price wins Zim Open

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Sunday 11.00pm.

ZIMBABWEAN Nick Price won the Zimbabwe Open by five shots with a 17-under-par total of 271 after a final day nine-under-par 63 saw him drive back the field at the Royal Harare course on Sunday.

Price’s win makes him the first player to win the title for the second year running, and also the first to win the title three times.

Price started the day with two birdies at the first and third, and quickly overhauled overnight leader Hennie Walters.

Price then annihilated the opposition with a 15m putt for an eagle on the 6th which stretched his lead from one to three, and then promptly sank four birdies in a row from the eighth to the 11th.

A fifth birdie at the 14th gave Price the chance to put the lid on an excellent round of golf which included only 26 putts.

Tjaart van der Walt claimed second spot with a total of 276 after a closing 68, and Hennie Walters, the overnight leader, took third position on 278.
